YouTube Video Optimisation

Are you maximising your Youtube Video Marketing opportunities?

Become a magnet to pre-qualified traffic!

Most of us know how important it is to use Search Engine Optimisation within our websites if we want to become a magnet to pre-qualified traffic. However, maybe you don’t know that optimising videos can be just as important. Optimise your videos properly, and you’ll have a chance of them coming up on the 1st page of Google’s search results – and that’s key if you want to grow the number of leads into your business. In this article we’ll be highlighting YouTube Video Optimisation tips from the experts in the industry!

1) Tags

Via HubSpot

For SEO, you should include at least 5-7 relevant keywords as tags for your video. Using tags will associate your video with other similarly tagged videos, which will mean your video will be shown in the “related video” section. This will help you generate additional views from people who were originally watching other videos on the same subject – useful!

2) Include Keywords in Your Title

Via Social Examiner

Your title should tell viewers exactly what they can expect to see in your video. That can be harder than it sounds. Is your title too long? People lose interest and ignore you. Is your title too short? People don’t know if it’s what they’re looking for and they ignore you.

Ideally, your title should have around 120 characters — enough to tell people what they’re watching, but not so much they overlook it. For instance, a video entitled ‘IT software won’t really grab users’ attention because it’s fundamentally uninteresting and doesn’t suggest it may have much relevance or use to the viewer. However, “IT software – How to prevent security breaches” may attract a more qualified prospect (if you’re an IT business, of course. For your business, replace product name / sector accordingly, rinse and repeat!).

3) Content is the “All Powerful”

Via Search Engine Watch

Creating great content is the key component to successfully optimising your video(s). Without that, it’s almost impossible to naturally generate good views and drive traffic to your channel. If your goal is to obtain a substantial amount of views (but we’d question that as a “goal” – more a means to an end, we hope), make sure your content is either engaging, entertaining or informative, and most importantly, shareable. And don’t forget the most important thing – a strong call to action.

Not all of your traffic will come from YouTube itself. For each channel, YouTube has a great analytics tool that allows you to keep track of all of the sources. The better the content the more likely it is that other popular websites will share it. Additionally, staying on top of trends while creating your video is another helpful strategy. If people are searching for it, they might just find you. You can use hash tags and alerts to see what might work for you.

4) Ratings & Comments

Via Hubspot

Higher ratings and more comments are also indications of higher quality and more interesting videos, so it’s helpful to generate as many ‘thumbs up’ ratings and comments as you can for SEO purposes. In fact, even a thumbs down is better than being ignored – engagement is important in terms of SEO. The best way to do this is to create brilliant content, and by that I mean “useful and relevant” to your prospect. If you’ve already created your video, encourage your followers to check out your video via your blog and social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, Google+, or LinkedIn.
